Providing Employment Opportunity and Direct Services to Homeless People
(from www.labordawgs.com)
There are literally hundreds of homeless people that attempt to resolve their individual situation by acquiring and maintaining some type of employment.
The present social policy does not recognize this effort and fails miserably to provide any type of support to those who are currently employed and just trying to get to that first check or those that are seeking work. This proposal addresses this situation in a cost effective manner. Many shelters are not equipped to handle, for instance, those working second or third shift. One in particular charges $5.00 to sleep in a bunk bed for the day.
While getting a job is one thing, getting to it and keeping it is another. The best that the City can do is maybe hand out a day bus pass and only if you are lucky. Additionally there is an inherent conflict between working and being able to get food. Many of the soup lines are closed by the time one returns from work. None of the present service providers make allowances for this except if you have Food Stamps which you can give them.
